1) Verb + Gerund Pharse

• ”Cooking for my family is my daily activity.” 
• “I like taking picture with my camera.”

• “Taking precaution is one of my duty as the security of the President.” 
• “My hobby is dancing in front of a mirror” 2) Verb + infinitive Pharse 
• “My father returned home to take his laptop”.  “I sold my laptop to pay the college fee.” 
• “To sing very well before the concert, singers need practices” 
• “Bianca, an national artist, is taking a week of holiday from her routine to spend the time with her family” 
• “I went home to study for math.” 

3) Verb + preposition Pharse

• “Many people died of malaria (Banyak orang mati karena malaria)” 
• “We don’t want to interfere with their business ( Kita tidak ingin bertentangan dengan kepentingannya)” 
• “We rejoiced at (in) his success (Kami gembira atas kesuksesannya)” 
• “I can’t find my ring. I’ve looked for it everywhere (Aku tidak bisa menemukan cincinku. Aku sudah mencarinya kemana-mana)” 
• “I am looking forward to your answer as soon as possible (Aku mengharapkan jawabanmu sesegera mungkin)” 

4) Adjective + infinitive

• “If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.”

can, could, would you…?  Can you give me a ring at about 10?  Could you speak up a bit please? (slightly more formal, polite or ‘softer’) 

Obligation : 

you should…  You should finished the paper before the mid test schedule come out 

Advisability : 

what should…?/ she shouldn’t…?  He should not patronize me, that was impolite Necessity : I have to…?/ do I have to…?/ you must  Do I have to convice him to get in to our weekly program, seriously?
